USCIS Completes Lottery for Fiscal Year 2018 H-1B Cap; Employers Should be Notified Soon

April 17, 2017

The USCIS announced today that it has completed the random selection process for 65,000 regular H-1B petitions and 20,000 U.S. Masters degree H-1B petitions.  All cases not selected for the lottery will be returned, including fees.  Employers whose petitions were selected in the lottery should be receiving receipt notices shortly.

This year, the USCIS reports that it received 199,000 total fiscal year H-1B petitions.  Last year, the number was 236,000.

The USCIS previously announced that they would suspend premium processing on all H-1B petitions for at least 6 months.  This includes cases filed under the FY 2018 cap, as well as extension and change of employer requests.
