DHS Proposes USCIS Fee Increases

The Department of Homeland Security today published a proposed rule in the Federal Register to increase USCIS filing fees. The USCIS calculates fees to recover full costs of operations and believes there will be a shortfall imminently. The last adjustment to filing fees was made in November 2010.
The public has until July 5, 2016 to provide comments. After that date, the DHS will respond to comments and publish a final rule.
Under the proposed changes, the filing fees for some petitions would increase as follows:
Form I-129 $460 (currently $325)
Form I-539 $370 (currently $290)
Form I-140 $700 (currently $580)
Form I-485 $1,140 (currently $985)
The proposed rule does not contemplate an increase in the Premium Processing fee.
