WSM’s Stephanie Smith Highlights Barriers to Entrepreneurs in Fwd.us Interview
April 8, 2014
Associate Stephanie C. Smith shared her insights on the dire need for immigration reform last week in an interview with nonprofit organization Fwd.us. Ms. Smith outlined the fiscal-year H-1B process and pointed to the limited options available to entrepreneurs seeking to start new businesses here. She highlighted the American Immigration Council's findings that 45 percent of new businesses formed in California from 2007 through 2011 were founded by people not born in the United States. Our outdated immigration laws often drive these innovators to found their businesses elsewhere, she noted — taking away from economic growth and the generation of new jobs for U.S. workers. Founded by key leaders in the tech community, Fwd.us promotes policies to keep the United States and its citizens competitive in a global economy.
