USCIS Announces Fiscal Year 2015 H-1B Lottery

April 10, 2014 | Tags: H-1B

As predicted, the government announced April 10 that it has received enough fiscal-year, regular-cap H-1B petitions to exhaust FY numbers within the first five days of filing, and as a result, and by regulation, the USCIS held a computer-generated lottery of all FY-2015 H-1B visa petitions received from April 1 through April 7, the first five days of the FY filing period. The lottery randomly selected 65,000 general-category cap petitions and 20,000 cap under the advanced degree exemption petitions.

The USCIS received about 172,500 H-1B petitions, including petitions filed for the advanced degree exemption. Last year, the USCIS received 124,000 petitions within the first five days of the FY filing period.
